Abstract

India is a democratic country. Elections take place after every five years to elect the state and central governments. Different political parties take part in the election process. They select their candidates for contesting the elections. Unfortunately, all the political parties prefer to select candidates with criminal backgrounds for multiple obvious reasons. Such candidates are voted and elected by the electorate to power through various political parties and become part and parcel of state and central governments. Thus, there is criminalization of politics and politicalisation of criminals in India. Can India get rid of these unhealthy practices in future? The problem has been analyzed and discussed in the present article from various pros and cons and presented along with suggestions to get rid of the same in future.
