Methanol Poisoning - An autopsy based study at tertiary care centre of Uttarakhand, India

Methanol poisoning (Hooch tragedy) is a genuine medical, social and financial burden to society that may cause extreme ailment or demise. After methanol ingestion, focal sensory system impediments, cerebral confusion, tipsiness, queasiness, absence of coordination and perplexity starts. Within 10-30 hours of ingestion, symptoms may progress to loss of vision and metabolic derangements. Numerous outbreaks of methyl alcohol poisoning have occurred in various parts of India, causing significant mortality and morbidity. Total 91 cases were reported at tertiary care centre at Uttarakhand, India. Extensive post mortem study was done to see the post mortem changes in brought dead & post admission death cases. Out of 91 patients who reported to hospital all were males.
